Japanese Retailers Cutting PlayStation Vita Price

Due to the low sales numbers for the PlayStation Vita, select Japanese retailers are beginning to cut the price of both models of the system by as much as 20%. Now this does not mean Sony is considering an eventual price drop but simply retailers are trying to move the system off of their shelves.

Only 72,479 Vita systems were sold this past week; compare that to the latest numbers of the original PSP which sold over 100,000 units.

  1. i need precedent here. when was the last time a gaming system was priced down by retailers just to move it off the shelves? i feel like sony’s taking a hit to their pride by having this happen so soon after launch

    • but the article says that retailers are cutting prices on both models. where have you seen that says it’s only the 3G one? 88-central probably mentioned that both got price cuts for a reason. sorry if i’ll stand corrected after this, but i just prefer to trust the information of the author

  2. It’s a shame that Sony hasn’t reduced the price yet so retailers are forced to do it for them (which as reduces their confidence in the ability of the system to sell in the future) The system is great but with the price, errors, and the opening line-up, a lot of people just don’t want to drop that $250-$300 atm.
